Waterpower

Ontario's electricity system is characterized by its diversity - multiple renewable energy sources, including waterpower, satisfy the province's electricity demands. Waterpower currently accounts for approximately 25 percent of the province's electricity needs and is met by more than 200 generating facilities strategically placed throughout the province.

Waterpower is one of the cleanest and most economical sources of electricity. It supplies both baseload and peak-load generation to the grid and is a proven critical resource for the sustainability of the electricity system. Today, Ontario's waterways provide many opportunities for waterpower projects to be developed.
