Renewable Energy Approval

The environmental approval for renewable energy projects is called the renewable energy approval. It is regulated by the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Natural Resources. To obtain a renewable energy approval, your project will have to meet certain requirements, including provincial setback and noise standards, environmental impact studies and public consultation.

Preparing your submission and completing your public consultation will take time and effort. You are encouraged to begin this process early on in your project development.

Renewable Energy Facilitation Office

Depending on its size, type, and location, your renewable energy project may be subject to regulatory approval(s), for example, through the Ministry of the Environment and/or the Ministry of Natural Resources. The Renewable Energy Facilitation Office can help you navigate through this process by:

  • providing access to information
  • connecting you with the right resources at the appropriate ministries, agencies and governments
  • setting up a coordinated scoping meeting to discuss your project's requirements.
