There are a number of questions on the application form about the connection of your project to the transmission or distribution system.

Typically, projects under 10 megawatts (MW) will connect to the distribution system. If you are connecting to the distribution system, you should meet with your local distribution company to discuss:

• present distribution system capacity
• existing plans to expand the distribution system
• connection options and costs for your project.

If you are connecting to the transmission system, similar considerations should be discussed with the transmission company in your area.

There are certain circumstances under which you might choose not to specify connection details. Such as where:

• your project is located far from the existing distribution grid and the connection costs required to connect your project make your project uneconomical
• your project is connecting to the transmission system and requires an enabler facility to connect.

If you do not specify connection details on your application, your project will proceed directly to the economic connection test. Your project will likely wait in the FIT reserve until the transmission and/or distribution system have been sufficiently expanded to accommodate your project.

Note: capacity allocation-exempt facilities or behind-the-meter facilities are required to submit a proposed connection point.
